Troop 33

Aloha Troop 33,

This is not a Troop event. No ASMs will be coordinating or supervising. However, the Scoutmaster will be donating blood.

Manoa Library, which has been helping our Scouts with service projects and our latest Eagle Project, is hosting a Blood Drive at Manoa Public Library on July 20, 2019 (Saturday), from 8 am – 1 pm.

So far they have 24 donors – but need 16 more! With only 1 week to go and they’re worried they won’t be able to make the quota.

If you're willing to donate, see eligibility requirements at this link: http://bbh.org/become-a-donor/who-can-donate.html

It is important for people to make appointments rather than just show up. That way surgeries can be scheduled around the blood drive.

Appointments can be made directly through this link:

or call Christel Collins at 988-0459.

If you plan to participate, please complete and submit form to Willard or Corinne Chang by Friday, May 3rd. Again, this is a fun 5.25-mile walk that starts at Ala Moana Beach Park, continues through Waikiki and ends up back at Ala Moana Beach Park. There are lots of snacks, goodies and entertainment along the way. There is also a free plate lunch at the end.

The entry fee is covered by the Troop, for our Scouts and Scout's immediate family members. But you are welcome and encouraged to bring other family and friends! For them, the fee is $25 for walkers up to 18 years old, and $40 for adults.  Forms are available at the Scout Hut.

Our Troop will meet on the morning of the walk at 6:15 AM at the IBM building parking lot across from the park. Address: 1240 Ala Moana Blvd. Parking lot is on the Auahi Street side of the building. All scouts must wear Class B Shirts and covered shoes. Scouts must walk with a buddy, and siblings and friends should walk with their families.  You may want to bring a bag for the goodies from the checkpoints, along the way.  Hats and sunscreen are recommended. Stamp cards will be given to you at the beginning of the walk, and completed stamp cards can be turned in at the end of the walk for a plate lunch.

The finish will be at McCoy Pavilion Keyhole area in Ala Moana Park.  We will finish at about 10:30 AM, but actual end times depend on the pace of the individual walkers.  Please check out with an ASM before leaving. Hope to see you there!

Parents:  We are also in need of Course Marshals.  Our troop traditionally provides 5-7 course marshals each year. It’s an easy job and it's fun to see all the enthused walkers pass by, and most of all, the Charity Walk really needs and appreciates the support. Please let Corinne Chang know, if you can volunteer to be a marshal. Thank you!

Marshal requirements and duties:

-       18 years of age or older.

-       Check in by 6:00 a.m. at Ala Moana Park on the day of the walk and remain on duty until the last checkpoint closes (~12 noon). Transportation will be provided to/from your assigned areas.

-       Able to stand 4-5 hours, in varied weather conditions. (Breaks can be taken.)

-       Assist walkers in obeying all traffic and pedestrian laws.

-       Be friendly and professional and have fun, while keeping everyone safe!

Aloha Scouts and Families.

We are pleased to announce that the upcoming Aloha Council Scouting Award Dinner will include honors for two of our outstanding Scout Leaders, for all the hard work, caring and dedication they put into helping the boys succeed..

Mr. Gary Hashiro will be honored as a recipient of the Scoutmaster of the Year award.

Mr. Jerry Oishi will be honored as a recipient of the Extra Miler award.

We are cancelling the April 5th meeting, so that Scouts and families may join us in congratulating and honoring Mr. Hashiro and Mr. Oishi.

The dinner will be on Friday, April 5, 2019, at St. John Vianney School Cafeteria in Enchanted Lakes.  Signup and fees are online only at:https://scoutingevent.com/104-hikinaawarddinner. The cost is $20 per person until March 25, 2019, when it increases to $25.

We hope you can join us in showing our appreciation to these two ASMs who do so much to make Troop 33 special.

We will be running a one day Chess Merit Badge at Manoa Valley Church upper classroom on Friday March 22 from 1-5pm.  This is the same day as our court of honor later, but the merit badge class is during the day, and all the scouts should be on spring break.

Because we rarely run this merit badge, and because the room is fairly large, I have offered to host some scouts from troop1 as well.

If interested, can you please sign up on the sign-up sheet with your name and email address.
