The Troop 33 Scouting Program

Troop 33 Manoa is located in Honolulu, Hawaii and chartered by the Manoa School Association of Parents and Teachers (APT). We are a 50+ year old unit in the Kapiolani District of Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America. Our troop meetings are held every Friday evening at 7:30 at “The Hut” on the opposite end of the parking lot across from Manoa Elementary School’s cafeteria.

Troop 33 is led and organized by the Scouts themselves. Parents are also integrated into the life of the Troop to assist as Committee Members, Adult Leaders, Merit Badge Counselors, Fundraising Volunteers and in many other areas that contribute to the vitality of the Troop. Troop 33 is successful because each boy assumes increasing amounts of responsibility when they assume higher leadership positions within the Troop as he matures. Our parental support is the very underpinnings of our successful Scouting Program. Each Family’s personal investment in the support of each boy creates the environment of excellence that our Troop enjoys.

Troop activities provide opportunities for boys to live the ideals of Scouting, to develop proficiency in outdoor and practical life skills, to explore career possibilities and to gain leadership experience.

Troop 33’s program is designed for boys aged 11 through 17 and recognizes the value of their various academic and personal commitments. However, Scouts who have completed 5th grade or received Arrow of Light at age 10 may be considered to join our Troop at age 10. Each Scout determines his own pace for rank advancement and designs his own agenda of participation in Troop activities. Learning to work cooperatively in mixed-age patrols of boys and as a member of the Troop is at the heart of our Scouting Program at Troop 33.

Our program has yielded many Eagle Scouts over the years but our primary focus is to produce great citizens within our community. Because our Scouts have fun and find personal fulfillment in our program, many of our boys stay with our Troop until they reach majority. This is a testament to the Scouting Program and the support from all of the Adult Volunteers that give so generously of their time and resources.
