Waahila Ridge Day Hike, June 17
The next hike will be the Waahila Ridge day hike on Saturday, June 17. We will meet at the Scout Hut at 8 am and end at the Scout Hut. The hikers will likely be back at the Scout Hut around 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m..
Attached is a map of the hike. We’ll walk up East Manoa Rd. to Alani Drive to the trail head. From there we’ll hike up the side of the mountain to the ridge line and follow the ridge line down to Dole Street, then cut through UH back to the Scout Hut. We’ll stop for lunch at Waahila State Park. Total distance is about 6.5 miles. The portion from Alani Drive to the ridge line is steep (about 1,200’ elevation gain), but we will be in the shadow of the ridge line so it will be cool. About half mile from Dole Street it will be barren and rocky, and likely hot, so we’ll move slowly through that portion. We’ll have panoramic views of the city. Very nice (see attached).
Deadline to sign up for the hike is tonight at the scout hut. Bring lunch and about 1.5 to 2 liters of water/Gatorade. Scouts should double check that their shoes fit well as little feet grow quickly and it’s been a little while since the last hike. If you have walkie talkies, please bring them. Other things you might want to bring are a hat, sun screen, and hiking poles.
